Netizens say, "Let's go support with money"
A chicken restaurant that gained attention on social networking services (SNS) by posting photos of cleaning its fryer daily has reportedly seen its actual sales increase more than threefold through word of mouth.
On the 10th, various online communities posted recent updates about a franchise chicken restaurant located in Buk-gu, Gwangju. This restaurant became a hot topic since May for posting photos of thoroughly cleaned fryers on SNS.
Netizens who saw the posts responded with comments such as, "It's obvious that restaurant hygiene should be clean, but since many places don't follow this basic rule, this restaurant seems to be gaining popularity," "I'm going to support them with my money," "Hygiene is absolutely important for food, the owner is awesome," "Wishing you prosperity," and "I hope more restaurants like this appear."
The chicken restaurant owner, Mr. Park, appeared on SBS's 'Master of Living' broadcast on the 8th as a 'Master of Fryer Cleaning.' The production team introduced Mr. Park as "a nationally famous master known for cleaning."
Regarding posting photos of fryer cleaning daily, Mr. Park said, "I started to show my friends and acquaintances that I am working hard," and added, "I never expected to receive such great attention from others all of a sudden." The broadcast showed Mr. Park cleaning the fryer basket thoroughly using a sponge scrubber and a hairdryer.
According to the broadcast, the store's sales on May 17 were 599,400 KRW, but on the 5th, sales rose to 1,847,900 KRW, more than tripling. Mr. Park said, "At first, on weekdays when it was really bad, sales were 300,000 KRW, but now weekday sales have increased to between 1,000,000 and 1,800,000 KRW. Sales have really jumped."
Mr. Park expressed his ambition to achieve monthly sales of 50 million KRW. Born as a late-born only daughter, he has been the head of the household since he was 20 years old. Mr. Park said, "My top priority this year is for the store to do well," and added, "I want to reach 50 million KRW in monthly sales."
Meanwhile, some chicken restaurants use filtration devices to extend cleaning intervals or continue using fryers until the oil oxidizes and turns brown, cleaning the fryer only when discarding the oil. However, reusing oil generates harmful substances such as acrylamide and peroxides, which are known carcinogens.
