"GTX-Level Metropolitan Rail to Open in Regional Major Cities"

On the 10th, Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, announced plans to sufficiently supply housing in areas desired by the public through redevelopment, reconstruction, and the reorganization of aging planned cities such as first-generation new towns.
In his opening remarks at the plenary session of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, Minister Park stated, "We will also strengthen customized housing support tailored to life stages, including subscription and loan support for youth and newlyweds or childbearing couples, as well as expanding senior silver housing."
He also emphasized the intention to open the full-scale GTX era by steadily advancing the remaining projects following the opening of the metropolitan area express railroad (GTX)-A in March.
Minister Park said, "We will establish a super metropolitan living zone by opening GTX-level metropolitan railroads in local metropolitan areas as well."
He added, "We will underground railroads and roads that hinder urban growth and development, and revitalize aging urban spaces into desirable living areas through the New Village project."
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to prepare subordinate legislation within this year in line with the enforcement of the Special Act on Railroad Undergrounding in January next year, and select pilot projects in December. The ministry also revealed plans to support the realization of mega cities by expanding transportation infrastructure such as high-speed rail networks, arterial road networks, and regional hub airports to connect key points.
Minister Park also stated, "We will strengthen customized responses to vulnerabilities threatening traffic safety, such as drunk driving, sudden acceleration, and illegal tuning of freight vehicles."
The ministry announced that it is currently consulting to propose a government bill for the Special Act on Support for Victims of Jeonse Fraud, which includes measures to return auction profits from houses involved in jeonse fraud to the victims, to the National Assembly within this week.
On the 12th, Minister Park will preside over a meeting with related agencies including the Ministry of Justice and the Financial Services Commission to discuss support for victims of jeonse fraud. Following the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee's call for a survey on the actual damage caused by jeonse fraud, the ministry stated that it is "currently identifying the status of victims' jeonse loans and trust fraud."
Regarding the demand to accurately estimate the financial requirements for supporting victims of jeonse fraud, the ministry explained, "The Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements is currently estimating the financial needs considering expected auction prices and damage amounts."
