Daejeon City Council Elects Councilor Cho Wonhui as Chairperson for Second Half

Park Juhwa Defeats Opponent 15-7 in Runoff Vote
"Will Use Delegated Authority Properly for Citizens, Without Abuse"

Daejeon City Council Elects Councilor Cho Wonhui as Chairperson for Second Half Jo Wonhui, Daejeon City Council Member Elected as Speaker for the Second Half of the Term / Daejeon City Council

Jo Wonhui, a city council member, has been elected as the chairperson for the latter half of the term of the Daejeon City Council.


On the 10th, the city council held the 2nd plenary session of its 280th extraordinary meeting and conducted the chairperson election. Since no candidate secured a majority in the first and second rounds of voting, a runoff was held between Jo Wonhui and Park Juhwa.


In the runoff, Jo Wonhui received 15 votes, defeating Park Juhwa, who received only 7 votes, and was elected as the chairperson for the latter half of the term.


In the first round of voting, Jo Wonhui received 11 votes, Park Juhwa 7 votes, Lee Byungcheol 3 votes, and Lee Jaekyung 1 vote, resulting in no candidate achieving a majority, which led to a second round.


In the second round, Jo Wonhui received 11 votes, Park Juhwa 9 votes, Lee Byungcheol 1 vote, and Lee Jaekyung 1 vote, again with no majority, leading to a runoff.


After being elected, Jo Wonhui said, "It feels like hitting a lucky single with two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning," and added, "Because it was a difficult process, I will not abuse the authority entrusted to me and will use it properly for the citizens."


Previously, on the 3rd, the Daejeon City Council held a second round of voting for council member Kim Seongwang (People Power Party, Jung-gu 2), who was the sole candidate for chairperson at the 280th extraordinary meeting, but as in the first round, he failed to secure a majority with 11 votes in favor and 11 invalid votes.
