Gongju City Implements Low Birthrate Policies Including Childcare Support for Families with Multiple Children

Due to the low birth rate and aging society, Gongju in Chungnam, a region at risk of population extinction, is promoting initiatives such as childcare subsidies and housing loan interest support for families with multiple children to encourage childbirth.

The city announced on the 10th that it will implement a “Gongju-style Customized Low Birth Rate Response Policy” to promote childbirth.

In addition, the city plans to analyze low birth rate-related projects carried out by the central government and Chungnam Province by sector and identify policy blind spots.

In particular, starting in 2025, the city plans to provide support for housing loan interest for newlyweds and families with multiple children, subsidies for self-paid child care costs for families with two or more children, and a marriage congratulatory payment of 5 million won.

Furthermore, the city fully covers hospital examination fees for families planning childbirth and medical expenses for high-risk pregnant women, and provides a 90% subsidy for postpartum care helper costs for mothers.

Mayor Choi Woncheol stated, “We will implement comprehensive measures to overcome the low birth rate throughout the entire life cycle, so that marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing become happy choices for our citizens.”
