Incheon Namdong-gu Supports Weaning Food for Infants in Vulnerable Families... First in Incheon

Namdong-gu, Incheon, is the first in Incheon to provide weaning food support to infants and toddlers from vulnerable families.

Namdong-gu announced on the 10th that it has started a customized weaning food support project this month for infants and toddlers under 12 months old who are beneficiaries of the Dream Start program.

This project delivers customized weaning food appropriate for the infant's age to each household to support the health of infants and toddlers during this critical period of growth and development. The weaning food is provided in a ready-to-eat form without the need for additional cooking, and children who receive a "detailed evaluation needed" opinion from infant health checkups can receive additional support.

The district expects this initiative to reduce the burden on caregivers for preparing weaning food and to support healthy growth by providing stage-specific, nutritionally balanced customized weaning food to infants and toddlers.

Park Jong-hyo, the district mayor, said, "This project was launched to prevent negative impacts on child growth such as nutritional imbalance caused by delayed introduction of weaning food or inappropriate weaning food due to economic burdens and lack of parenting knowledge. We hope it will help resolve nutritional imbalance issues among vulnerable infants and toddlers and serve as an opportunity to promote proper eating habits and healthy growth."

Meanwhile, the Dream Start program provides customized integrated services to children from vulnerable families, aiming to promote healthy growth and development and ensure equal starting opportunities for children.
