Thirty-two schools in Jeonnam Province that have been aging for over 40 years are expected to be reborn as future-oriented schools with state-of-the-art facilities to operate future-oriented curricula.
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 10th, at a briefing session for the ‘Spatial Restructuring 2024·2026 Selected Schools Project’ held in the main office’s second-floor conference room, attended by about 130 people including school principals and staff.

According to the plan, the Office of Education will rebuild 39 school buildings across 32 schools by 2026 into future-oriented schools with a project budget of 349.9 billion KRW.
The Spatial Restructuring Project is a renamed version of the existing ‘Green Smart School’ initiative. It aims to transform school facilities that have been aging for over 40 years into sustainable schools equipped with five core elements that enable the realization of future-oriented curricula: ▲Spatial Innovation ▲Smart Classrooms ▲Green Schools ▲School Complexification ▲Safe Schools.
The briefing focused on the concept and promotion strategy of the Spatial Restructuring Project, understanding of preliminary planning, key tasks, expected effects, and upcoming preliminary planning-related training.
Kim Kyunghwan, Manager at the Korea Educational Facilities Safety Institute, was invited to introduce successful preliminary planning cases and major upcoming projects, including ▲Preliminary Planning Process ▲Excellent and Re-examined Cases of Spatial Planning ▲Guidance on Preliminary Planning Adequacy Review.
Administrative Director Park Youngsoo said, “Through this briefing, we reaffirmed that preliminary planning is an important process to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of policies,” adding, “We will continue to actively support the successful implementation of the Spatial Restructuring Project by organizing various briefings and training sessions.”
