Healing Programs at the Library, Cultural Arts with Local Residents
The National Mokpo University Library recently announced on the 10th that a total of 30 participants, including undergraduate students, local residents, and faculty members, successfully completed the "2024 Literary Journey: A Healing Trip to Find the Lyrical Self."
This literary journey was part of the 2024 Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional University Library Network project and centered around this year’s recommended book by residents of the Gwangju-Jeonnam area, "Marigold Mind Laundry."

Under the theme of "Reading and Healing," participants traveled to the city of Damyang to enjoy relaxation in nature. Through visits to the Korean Classical Literature Museum and nearby pavilions that inspire classical literature creation, participants gained a deep understanding of classical Korean literature and pavilion culture. They also experienced the aesthetics of slowness through walks in Juknokwon Bamboo Grove and reading sessions.
This event emphasized the library’s role in embracing local residents as well. One local participant said, "I learned about the program by chance and decided to join. It was great that local residents could participate, and I’m happy to have experienced the Korean Classical Literature Museum, Soswaewon Garden, and Juknokwon. Today was truly a healing day."
In addition, National Mokpo University has declared itself a "Culture and Arts-Centered University" and has been conducting various cultural and artistic events.
Kim Sunhwa, the library director, stated, "I hope participants were able to heal their body and mind through reading and rest. The library will continue to offer various programs to strengthen the humanities and liberal arts of local residents and to promote a culture of reading."
The National Mokpo University Library encourages reading activities through student reading clubs, the "Ongojisin" challenge, and the "Book of the Year" program in collaboration with university libraries in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region.
