Hospital Director Caught Selling General Anesthetics

It has been confirmed that a total of 29 people, including nine current Doosan Bears players, were involved in proxy prescriptions and administration of narcotics related to former professional baseball player Oh Jae-won (39). The director of a hospital in the metropolitan area, who illegally sold large quantities of the general anesthetic Etomidate to Oh's acquaintances, was also caught.

On the 10th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent 29 people to the prosecution on charges including violation of the Narcotics Control Act for receiving proxy prescriptions of psychotropic drugs such as Stilnox and Xanax for Oh from late March to early this month, or supplying large amounts of Etomidate.

Among those who received and delivered sleeping pills on behalf of Oh were 13 current and former professional baseball players and one Doosan Bears trainer. It was reported that all nine current baseball players involved belong to the Doosan Bears. Parents of students attending the baseball academy operated by Oh were also found to have participated in the crime.

Oh is already under trial after being arrested and indicted on charges of habitual narcotics use and bribery. The police have been investigating those involved with him since sending Oh to the prosecution in March.

The police believe that Oh started taking narcotics prescribed by acquaintances on his behalf from early 2020. Oh retired in October 2022, but it is said that he habitually used narcotics even during his active career. Oh admitted all his charges at the trial held last month.
