Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) awarded the Superintendent's Commendation and prize money to institutions with outstanding performance in purchasing products from social economy enterprises for 2023 at The-K Hotel Gyeongju in Gyeongju City on the 9th.
Social economy enterprises are companies that pursue social objectives such as providing social services or jobs to vulnerable groups or improving the quality of life for local residents. These include facilities producing goods by persons with severe disabilities, self-support enterprises, social enterprises, preliminary social enterprises, cooperatives, and village enterprises.
Park Yongjo, director of Andong Library, who was selected as the outstanding institution purchasing the most products made by people with severe disabilities by the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, is receiving a certificate and a prize of 1 million won from Lim Jongsik, superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education.
Institutions with outstanding purchasing performance were selected by dividing into the category of products made by persons with severe disabilities and other categories, as well as by administrative agencies and schools. The ratio and amount of purchases from social economy enterprises in the previous year were converted into scores, and the top three institutions with the highest scores were chosen.
In the category of products made by persons with severe disabilities, Andong Library of Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education and Gimcheon Jungang High School ranked first, Yeongdeok Office of Education and Songjeong Girls' Middle School (Gumi) ranked second, and Hwarang Education Center and Pohang Songdo Elementary School ranked third.
In other categories, Haeyang Training Center of Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education and Yurim Elementary School (Gyeongju) ranked first, Gumi Office of Education and Yeongju Seobu Elementary School ranked second, and Sangju Office of Education and Subi Middle School (Yeongyang) ranked third.
Prize money of 1 million won, 700,000 won, and 500,000 won will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners in the category of products made by persons with severe disabilities, respectively. In other categories, 700,000 won, 500,000 won, and 300,000 won will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners, respectively.
Meanwhile, since 2015, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education has been promoting public procurement by enacting the "Ordinance on the Promotion of Purchasing Products from Social Economy Enterprises by Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education." Each year, it establishes and implements a purchasing plan for products from social economy enterprises in relation to the total purchase amount for public institutions under its jurisdiction. In 2023, the purchase ratio was 4.97% of the total amount of goods and services, exceeding its own target ratio (4.44%) by 0.71%.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, said, "Purchasing products from social economy enterprises not only supports the self-sufficiency of vulnerable groups but also helps revitalize the local economy," and added, "We will continue to share the warmth of Gyeongbuk education with our neighbors by actively purchasing products from social economy enterprises."
