Hyundai Motor Group continues to achieve its best-ever performance by recording a market share in the 10% range for three consecutive years in the UK, the second largest automobile market in Europe. It is dominating the rapidly growing UK eco-friendly car market by selling half of its vehicles as eco-friendly cars in the first half of this year.
On the 10th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis sold 107,326 units in the UK market in the first half of this year, an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period last year. Hyundai Motor Group expects to surpass last year's record annual sales of 196,239 units and achieve annual sales of 200,000 units this year.
The market share in the first half of this year was 10.6%. Following 2022 (11.25%) and 2023 (10.31%), when it first exceeded the 10% mark annually, it is maintaining a market share in the 10% range for three consecutive years. This means that one out of every ten new cars sold in the UK, a traditional automobile powerhouse, is a Hyundai Motor Group vehicle.
In particular, sales of eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hybrid cars reached 53,169 units, accounting for half of the local sales volume. This is a 9% increase compared to the same period last year. Hyundai expanded its electric vehicle lineup to seven models this year by introducing the high-performance electric vehicle Ioniq 5 N to the UK market, and Kia secured four electric vehicle models by launching the EV9 in the second half of last year. The introduction of hybrid and plug-in hybrid models is also accelerating. For the new Santa Fe, which is about to be launched locally, Hyundai decided to sell only two models?hybrid and plug-in hybrid?excluding the gasoline model.
The UK automobile market is rapidly shifting towards eco-friendly vehicles. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the proportion of eco-friendly vehicles among new cars sold in the UK market in the first half of this year surged from 27.5% in 2021 to 36.5% last year and 38.4% in the first half of this year.
To target the UK market, Hyundai Motor Group will participate in the UK's largest automobile festival, the 'Goodwood Festival,' held locally from the 11th to the 14th. Goodwood is nicknamed the 'moving motor show' and is an event where high-value cars such as high-performance sports cars, luxury cars, and classic cars, along with star drivers, gather in one place.
Hyundai unveiled the Ioniq 5 N for the first time in the world at this event last year, and this year, Genesis will showcase the actual driving scenes of the GV60 Magma Concept and the G80 Electrified Magma Concept for the first time. The GV60 Magma Concept is a model representing Genesis's high-performance program 'Genesis Magma' and is a concept car for a future production vehicle.
