Yongin-si Receives 'Presidential Citation' for 3 Consecutive Years in Ministry of the Interior and Safety Disaster Management Evaluation

Mayor Sang-il Lee "Will Prioritize Citizen Safety in City Administration"

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that it has been selected as the best institution in the '2024 Disaster Management Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving the Presidential Citation for the third consecutive year.

The Disaster Management Evaluation is a comprehensive assessment conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety since 2005 under the 'Disaster and Safety Management Basic Act,' diagnosing the disaster management capabilities of 332 disaster management responsible organizations, including central government, local governments, and public institutions.

The city was highly evaluated for establishing a professional response system for various disaster situations and was selected as the best institution. With this selection, the city will receive a special grant of 245 million KRW.

The city has built a 'Smart City Integrated Platform' capable of real-time response during disaster situations and operates the nation's only safety collaboration model called the 'Safety Culture Salon.' The 'Safety Culture Salon' is a discussion group for heads of safety-related institutions such as the city, fire station, police station, and education office, proposed by Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin City, aimed at establishing a safety culture within the jurisdiction.

The support system for victims and emergency relief capabilities have also been strengthened in the event of a disaster. In fact, Yongin City's Smart City Integrated Platform is increasingly being benchmarked by other institutions operating similar systems.

Mayor Lee said, "We have established a policy to prioritize citizens' safety in all areas of city administration and have spared no investment in safety. We will continue to invest in safety, including improving the school commute environment."
