Secured Second Olympic Qualification Spot Following Rio Games
"No Meaning Unless Placing in Top 3 at Olympics"
"Will Sharpen Shot Sensation in Remaining Competitions"
"I definitely want to win a medal."
This is the determination of "Olympic retaker" An Byeong-hun. Ahead of his participation in the Genesis Scottish Open, co-hosted by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour), he expressed his resolve during a virtual press conference with domestic media on the 9th, saying, "If I don't finish in the top three at the Olympics, it means nothing. I will look for opportunities while playing the 72-hole competition."
An Byeong-hun is making his second appearance following the 2016 Rio Olympics. He will compete alongside Kim Joo-hyung, both wearing the Taegeuk mark. An has experience playing at Le Golf National, the venue for the Paris Olympics, from over ten years ago. He said, "My previous Olympic experience probably won't help much because it's a completely different course. I will prepare well from now on."
Recently, An Byeong-hun withdrew during the first round of the Travelers Championship. He explained, "It was hot weather, so I couldn't concentrate and played with difficulty. I felt like I had a cold and had no strength at all." He added, "After resting for 3 to 4 days, I recovered my energy. I am confident as the tournament will be held on a links course starting this week."
An Byeong-hun will participate in the Genesis Scottish Open, which opens on the 11th at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, followed by this year's final major, The Open, held on the 18th at Royal Troon, Scotland, before heading to the Paris Olympics. The men's Olympic golf competition will take place over four days starting August 1st at the Le Golf National Olympic Course. He said, "I have played a lot on links courses and like the wide-open, expansive courses. I want to sharpen my good form in preparation for the Olympics in four weeks."
