This summer, predicted to bring record-breaking heatwaves, a prime water playground that rivals a large water park will open right in the heart of downtown Seoul. Jongno-gu District Office (Mayor Jeong Munheon) will open the district's first children's water playground, 'Yeonji Water Playground,' at Yeonji Park near Ihwa Intersection on the 15th.
Yeonji Water Playground offers various attractions including slides, a large bucket water play combination structure, tunnel fountains, a water tunnel, and mini buckets. It is also equipped with outdoor shower facilities and outdoor changing rooms.
The playground will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from the 15th until the 31st of next month, and will be closed every Monday. Admission is allowed up to elementary school students, and safety personnel will be on duty at all times to prevent accidents; however, children under 7 must be accompanied by a guardian. Admission is completely free. To prevent accidents within the playground, wearing aqua shoes is recommended.
The district will hold an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on the opening day and has prepared a social media (SNS) event to commemorate the creation of the district’s first children’s water playground. From the 15th to the 29th of this month, those who follow the official Jongno-gu Instagram channel and correctly guess the name of the water playground will be entered into a draw where 100 winners will receive ice cream gift coupons.
Meanwhile, following last year, Jongno-gu will also install 'temporary water playgrounds' at Sungin Park (150 Dongmangsan-gil), Sanmaru Playground (39 Changsin 6-ga-gil), and Sangsang Chimney Playground (18-16 Jahamun-ro 19-gil). All three locations are equipped with water pools and slides.
Mayor Jeong Munheon stated, “I hope children and families can create joyful memories and cool off from the midsummer heat at these outdoor water playgrounds in the city, close to home, without needing to travel far.”
