Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced on the 10th that it has successfully completed the ‘2024 Seongbuk-gu Residents’ General Assembly’ held by each neighborhood residents’ autonomy committee to establish and decide next year’s residents’ autonomy plan.

The Residents’ General Assembly started on the 1st of last month in Jongam-dong and was held in all 20 neighborhoods, concluding in Seongbuk-dong on the 9th of this month. This year, as a ‘resident harmony type’ assembly with culture and experience, each neighborhood linked distinctive residents’ autonomy committee projects with autonomy center programs, operating cultural performances and experience booths to encourage residents’ participation and response. A total of about 20,000 residents participated in the Residents’ General Assembly across the 20 neighborhoods, creating a place of harmony and festival.

Also, this year, the 20 neighborhood residents’ autonomy committees promoted the ‘Sustainable Future, Green Seongbuk with Autonomy’ project at the Residents’ General Assembly sites, practicing zero waste, resource circulation, and responding to the climate crisis under the common theme of environment, and prepared various carbon-neutral related experience booths.

To gather diverse resident opinions, the residents’ autonomy committees of Donam 1-dong, Anam-dong, and Jangwi 3-dong operated visiting residents’ autonomy classes in connection with local schools, conducted residents’ autonomy education, and led local agenda proposals and resident voting, achieving public-private-academic cooperation.

Among about 700 local agendas received by each neighborhood, a total of 182 were selected through deliberation and discussion processes and the Residents’ General Assembly. The selected resident agendas will have their priorities decided directly by residents through on-site and online resident voting and will be established as the 2025 residents’ autonomy plan. The residents’ autonomy plans decided at each neighborhood Residents’ General Assembly will be linked to the ‘Seongbuk-type Residents’ Autonomy Activity Support Project’ and ‘Residents’ Autonomy Neighborhood Unit Plan Project’ and are scheduled to be implemented in 2025.

Major projects by neighborhood in 2025 include ▲Upcycling Center Protecting the Earth (Seongbuk-dong) ▲Sewing Workshop (Samseon-dong) ▲Finding Happiness for Seniors (Dongseon-dong) ▲Anabada Day (Donam 1-dong) ▲Environmental Keeper Urban Farmer Chef (Donam 2-dong) ▲I Love Seongbukcheon!
