Idemitsu Group is a leading Japanese petrochemical and materials company with annual sales of approximately 95 trillion won. Recently, it has been promoting research on future materials, including high-performance materials and advanced materials. The Osan R&D center will conduct research and development in areas such as energy sources, organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), and biotechnology.

The group plans to invest a total of 28 billion won in the R&D center and aims to hire 10 to 20 employees responsible for research and business cooperation by the end of the year.

Mayor Lee said, "The Idemitsu Group’s R&D center will be a valuable stepping stone linked to semiconductor and global companies." CEO Nagase responded, "We will use Osan as a foothold to share advanced technology fields with Korean companies and grow together."

Meanwhile, Osan City plans to promote large-scale development in the surrounding area following the opening of IAMK’s R&D center. The city envisions developing the nearby Osan Reserve Forces Training Center idle land into a high-tech industrial complex or creating a 300,000-pyeong-scale advanced techno valley nearby.

The mayor said, "Attracting new industry companies is necessary to build a self-sufficient connected city with a population of 500,000," adding, "We will exert our utmost efforts for urban development."
