Reason Why a Female Entrepreneur in Songpa-gu Donated 20 Million Won

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it received a donation of 20 million KRW from local business JinA M-Tech Korea to support vulnerable women in Songpa-gu, and will distribute feminine hygiene products to low-income women through the community service centers.

JinA M-Tech Korea CEO Hyejin Park, a female entrepreneur, has shown interest in welfare projects for women in the local community. In particular, this donation was made to support feminine hygiene products for vulnerable women in Songpa-gu, recalling the “shoe insole sanitary pad” incident.

The current “Sanitary Pad Voucher Support” program conducted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family targets only low-income female adolescents, leaving women of reproductive age over 25 without support.

Accordingly, the district decided to provide feminine hygiene products to basic livelihood security recipients aged 19 to 39, who are in the blind spot of the sanitary pad support program, following the donor company’s wish: “We hope that tragedies like the ‘shoe insole sanitary pad’ incident never happen again. We want to provide customized support to women who struggle to afford menstrual products every month due to difficult economic circumstances.”

The district plans to purchase feminine hygiene products worth 20 million KRW, including sanitary pads, and deliver them to each community service center to distribute to 1,450 low-income women.

Meanwhile, starting this year, the district has been operating the Songpa Sharing Network with the Community Chest of Korea and is continuously accepting donations. To encourage active participation, the district runs a “Donor Hall of Fame” section on the Songpa-gu website.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “We sincerely thank the donor company for practicing sharing for low-income women. Continuous interest and love for the local community like this will greatly help solve welfare blind spot issues. We will strive to improve the welfare of Songpa residents and create an inclusive city where no one is left behind, to repay the warm hearts of those who donated.”
