Jungnang-gu Operates Personalized Fall Prevention Program Using 'BrainStep'

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi), together with the Jungnang-gu Women's Association, is introducing a fall prevention program using the 'Brain Step' program, the first of its kind among Seoul's autonomous districts.

Brain Step is a fall prevention training system utilizing pressure sensors based on new materials, introduced to improve the physical abilities of the elderly and prevent fall accidents.

The program sets personalized exercise difficulty levels for each elderly individual through fall risk assessments using Brain Step, and conducts regular evaluations of physical ability and improvement.

Additionally, it focuses on fall accident prevention by continuously supporting cognitive rehabilitation and muscle strength exercises.

The target group consists of about 20 elderly individuals aged 65 and over at risk of falls, and the program has been underway since the 1st of this month at the Myeonmok-dong Municipal Jungnang Senior Welfare Center. The program will continue for four weeks until the end of this month.

The district expects that through this program, elderly participants will enhance lower body strength and develop proprioceptive senses, which detect body movements, thereby preventing not only falls but also dementia.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi expressed, “I deeply thank the Jungnang-gu Women's Association for their efforts to ensure the safety and healthy aging of our elderly residents,” and added, “I hope this program will help improve the quality of life for the elderly by promoting enhanced physical abilities and overall health.”
