Gwanak-gu Supports Improvement of Poor Urban Manufacturing Environment

Seoul City Secures 200 Million KRW for '2024 Urban Manufacturing Work Environment Support Project'
Total 260 Million KRW Including Local Funds, Up to 5 Million KRW Support per Company

Gwanak-gu Supports Improvement of Poor Urban Manufacturing Environment

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has been finally selected for the '2024 Urban Manufacturing Work Environment Support Project' announced by Seoul City.

The '2024 Urban Manufacturing Work Environment Improvement Support Project' is a program that provides subsidies to businesses in poor environments that are constantly exposed to harmful substances such as dust and poor ventilation, which occur due to the nature of urban manufacturing work such as garment sewing, machinery and metal, and printing.

Gwanak-gu has achieved the remarkable feat of being selected for the Seoul City Work Environment Improvement Support Project for six consecutive years from 2019 to this year, becoming a strong support for small urban manufacturing businesses in poor environments.

From March to April, the district accepted applications from urban manufacturing businesses registered in Gwanak-gu that met the basic requirements (▲ fewer than 10 regular employees ▲ agreement to follow-up management and actual condition measurement for 3 years ▲ no overdue national or local taxes as of the application deadline) and needed work environment improvements, and applied to Seoul City for the project.

Gwanak-gu was finally selected after Seoul City's actual condition survey and subsidy review, securing 200 million KRW in city funds. Including district funds, a total of 260 million KRW will be used to support 54 businesses in the area this year. Each business can receive up to 5 million KRW.

Additionally, in March 2022, the opening of the 'Gwanak-gu Small Business Garment Sewing Collaboration Center,' a joint infrastructure facility in the urban small business cluster area of Sinsa, Jowon, and Miseong-dong where garment manufacturing small businesses are concentrated, laid the foundation for the revitalization of the stagnant garment manufacturing industry.

The Gwanak-gu Small Business Garment Sewing Collaboration Center, located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of 1517-1 Nambusunhwan-ro (Sinsa-dong), is equipped with ▲ cutting room and CAD room ▲ education room and pattern room ▲ shared workshop and sample room, and provides high initial investment equipment such as cutting machines, pattern CAD, and sewing machines that are difficult for general small businesses to operate, open to local businesses.

Moreover, the district supports various programs for local small businesses, including shared workshop utilization, capacity-building education, consulting, building a network of small businesses in the cluster area, joint brand and product development for garment sewing small businesses, and market development.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Through this support project, I hope that small urban manufacturing businesses working in poor environments in the region will improve their work efficiency and productivity in a safe and comfortable environment,” and added, “We will continue to spare no effort to strengthen the self-sustainability and competitiveness of urban manufacturing small businesses.”
