McIlroy and Schauffele Lead 'Top Rankers' Lineup
The PGA Tour is moving its main stage to Europe for two weeks.
Kim Juhyung is challenging for the championship at the Genesis Scottish Open, sponsored by a domestic company.
From the 11th (local time), the Genesis Scottish Open (total prize money of $9 million) will be held for four days at the Renaissance Club (par 70, 7,237 yards) in North Berwick, Scotland, and from the 18th, the season's final major tournament, The Open, will also take place at Royal Troon in Scotland. Both tournaments are co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour).
The Genesis Scottish Open is sponsored by Genesis, a brand of the Korean company Hyundai Motor Company. Korean players include Paris Olympic national representatives Kim Joo-hyung and An Byeong-hun, as well as Im Sung-jae, Kim Si-woo, and Lee Kyung-hoon. Kim Joo-hyung finished third in this tournament in 2022, marking his first top-10 finish on the PGA Tour.
Park Sang-hyun, Ham Jeong-woo, and Lee Jeong-hwan, who are active on the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour, will also compete. Park Sang-hyun is participating as the winner of last year's KPGA Tour Genesis Championship, while Ham Jeong-woo and Lee Jeong-hwan earned their spots by finishing first and second in last year's KPGA Tour Genesis points standings.
The Genesis Scottish Open features a large number of top-ranked players. Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), last year's champion, is aiming for a consecutive win. He attracted attention by going out accompanied by his wife for the first time since his recent divorce controversy. Other contenders include Xander Schauffele (USA), Ludvig Aberg (Sweden), and Collin Morikawa (USA). DP World Tour strong players Rasmus Højgaard (Denmark) and Alex Fitzpatrick (England) are also challenging for the title. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) chose to rest in preparation for The Open.
