Janggi Eupseong, a Place You'd Want to Live... Selected as the Best Site for Unique Two-Region Living
KRW 2 Billion Including KRW 1 Billion in Special Grants to Be Invested Over 2 Years for Regional Revitalization
Pohang City was finally selected on the 9th in the 'Dual-Region Living' category of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Gohyang Olrae (GOHyang ALL Rae) Project' public contest.
Gohyang Olrae is a project planned and promoted since last year by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to revitalize local communities through lifestyle populations who reside temporarily rather than as registered residents. The project is divided into five detailed categories: Dual-Region Living, Local Venture, Local Study Abroad, Workation, and Retiree Villages.
A total of 48 local governments applied for this public contest. After practical review, document screening, and on-site evaluation by a panel of private experts and central government officials, 12 local governments were finally selected as project recipients.
Pohang City was selected in the 'Dual-Region Living' category, which supports people to establish additional living bases in the region for leisure, relaxation, and experience. The city will receive a special grant of 1 billion KRW for two years, and with a total budget of 2 billion KRW (including 1 billion KRW in local funds), plans to accelerate projects to attract lifestyle populations.
The project for which Pohang City was selected is themed around the city's representative cultural tourism site, 'Janggi Eupseong.' Titled 'I Live in the Fortress. Move into Janggi Eupseong,' the unique dual-region living program, which allows participants to experience life in a historic and culturally vibrant fortress village, was evaluated as highly attractive during the screening.
Through this project, the city plans to renovate unused houses within Janggi Eupseong into residential facilities and creative spaces, and operate regional specialized experience programs linked to dual-region living.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "Through this project, we will create a unique specialized village within the main historical and cultural tourism site of Janggi Eupseong by utilizing unused spaces that cannot be found anywhere else in the country. In addition, we will continue to discover related projects and do our best to revitalize the local economy by increasing the lifestyle population."
