The Seoul Metropolitan Government has confirmed the installation of a memorial altar for the first anniversary of the death in the line of duty of Chae Sang-byeong at Cheonggye Plaza.
The city announced on the 9th that, after swift and extensive consultations with the Marine Corps Reserve Regiment, two altars will be installed in front of the Sora Tower (Spring sculpture) at Cheonggye Plaza.

Earlier, the Reserve Regiment submitted an application to the city on the 4th for permission to use Gwanghwamun Plaza from the 17th to the 19th of this month to set up the memorial altar for Chae Sang-byeong's first anniversary. It was reported that the Seoul city side expressed reluctance to approve the use due to previously scheduled installations related to water play events.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, upon learning of the related reports, instructed to promptly secure a site for the altar together with the Marine Corps Reserve Regiment, the city explained. Accordingly, Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs Kim Byung-min met with Jeong Won-cheol, president of the Reserve Regiment, and others in the afternoon to finalize the installation location.
A city official stated, "Ahead of the 19th, the first anniversary of Chae Sang-byeong, we will actively support and cooperate to ensure the smooth operation of the citizens' memorial altar to be installed from the 17th to the 19th."
