New MMORPG
'Chojayeon Hyeonsang' Features Cooperative Play with Supernatural Phenomena as Main Theme
Chinese game company NetEase Games is targeting the Korean market with its new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) 'Once Human'.
Geo Wi, senior game designer at NetEase Games, stated at the Once Human media showcase held on the 9th at Entreble in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, "Korea is an important region with a solid PC gaming foundation and very high user expectations. We will seek breakthroughs in the Korean market by receiving evaluations from users and actively reflecting their feedback."
Once Human is a game set in a post-apocalyptic world where players cooperate with various companions and undertake survival missions against bizarre entities. It features 'supernatural phenomena' as its main theme, which has not been seen in previous MMO and open-world titles. The primary gameplay direction is to survive in a world contaminated by an alien invasion while pioneering a new future for humanity.
The game is characterized by various cooperative play elements ranging from small groups to guilds. Players can fight together against monstrous creatures or enjoy player-versus-player combat. It also implements the high freedom typical of open-world games, including extensive gameplay content such as survival base building, vehicle usage, gathering, weapon crafting, and a pet system that joins in battles. The game supports cross-platform play on PC and mobile devices.
Senior designer Geo Wi said, "It is not just about exploring with a few people; there is a server prepared where 4,000 players can enjoy and explore together," adding, "We plan to release mobile and console versions soon."
NetEase Games plans to completely exclude the 'Pay2Win' revenue model from Once Human. Lee Se-young, head of NetEase Games Korea, said, "The direction of this game avoids Pay2Win. Payments will not affect gameplay."
They are confident about domestic success as well. Lee said, "In the Korean market, commercial success and attention tend to concentrate on certain specific genres. As a global publisher, NetEase's pursuit of various genre attempts will be a differentiated competitive advantage."
