Chungnam and Gyeonggi-do Collect Marine Waste... "Creating a Clean West Coast"

Chungnam Province and Gyeonggi Province launched a cleanup operation for marine debris along the West Coast on the 9th.

Since last year, the two provinces have been collecting marine waste in accordance with the "Joint Response for Collection and Disposal of Marine Debris to Create a Clean West Sea," which was part of the Bay Valley Win-Win Cooperation Agreement signed by Governor Kim Tae-heum and Governor Kim Dong-yeon in September 2022.

Following last year's operation on Pungdo in Gyeonggi Province, this year, the Gyeonggi Cheongjeongho vessel collected waste in the Garorim Bay waters of Seosan and Taean, transported it to the collection site using the Neulpureun Chungnamho vessel.

The Gyeonggi Cheongjeongho is equipped with excavators and cranes for collecting submerged marine debris, while the Neulpureun Chungnamho, Korea's first hybrid vessel, is outfitted with a crane and a marine waste transport truck, among other equipment.

The two provinces plan to develop new policies related to marine debris and jointly respond to government proposals to create a cleaner West Coast.

Jang Jinwon, Director of the Oceans and Fisheries Bureau of Chungnam Province, said, "This joint response to marine debris demonstrates the commitment of Chungnam and Gyeonggi to creating a clean sea," adding, "We will continue to cooperate to create a clean, debris-free ocean."
