On the morning of the 9th, Gyeongbuk Superintendent of Education Lim Jong-sik visited Seongchang Girls' High School in Andong, which suffered damage from heavy rainfall, along with about 10 related officials including the head of the Education Safety Division of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, the Andong Education Office chief, and the head of the Facility Support Center.
On August 8, due to heavy rainfall in the northern part of Gyeongbuk, a landslide occurred behind Seongchang Girls' High School, causing soil to flow into the gymnasium and parking lot and damaging the gymnasium wall.
Lim Jongsik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, visited Andong Seongchang Girls' High School, which was damaged by heavy rain, and instructed the Gyeongbuk Office of Education and school officials to establish measures for rapid recovery and prevention of recurrence.
At the on-site countermeasure meeting, Superintendent Lim ordered an urgent safety inspection to ensure that students can use the facilities with confidence and called for the prompt restoration of the eroded slope.
The restoration work for the school will be carried out using the compensation fund from the Korea Educational Facilities Safety Institute, and additional construction or preventive projects will be promoted by preparing various support measures, such as applying for special disaster grants.
Meanwhile, on the day of the heavy rain, Seongchang Girls' High School implemented emergency safety measures by restricting access around the eroded slope to prevent accidents and conducted shortened classes and school closures on the 8th and 9th to ensure student safety.
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik stated, "We will do our utmost not only for the prompt restoration of school sites but also to establish comprehensive measures to prevent recurrence, so that students can learn in a safe educational environment."
