Over 300 Athletes Engage in Fierce Competition for Regional Unity
Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province successfully hosted the "2024 Goryeong County Sports Association President's Cup UNESCO Goryeong, Seongju, Chilgok Amateur Table Tennis Tournament" on the 6th at the Goryeong County Gymnasium. The event was organized by the Goryeong County Sports Association and supervised by the Goryeong County Table Tennis Association.
This tournament was first held in 2022 in Seongju County to promote exchange and harmony among table tennis enthusiasts from Goryeong, Seongju, and Chilgok counties. Following last year's event in Chilgok, this year's tournament was held in Goryeong to commemorate the inscription of the Goryeong Jisandong Ancient Tombs as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The tournament featured events such as general ball individual singles (Ace Division, Integrated Upper Division, Integrated Lower Division, Men's Beginner Division, Women's Beginner Division), general ball team events (Upper Division, Lower Division), large ball individual singles (Men's Division, Women's Division, Men's Beginner Division, Women's Beginner Division), and large ball team events (Integrated Division, Integrated Beginner Division). More than 300 athletes participated, showcasing the skills they had honed over time.
In the general ball individual singles, the winners were Kim Hyunseong (Ace Division/Goryeong Association), Lee Dogyeom (Integrated Upper Division/Power Club), Park Hwankuk (Integrated Lower Division/Chilgok County Office), Kim Myeonggi (Men's Beginner Division/TT Zone Club), and Lee Taeseong (Women's Beginner Division/Suryun Table Tennis Club).
In the general ball team events, Power Club (Upper Division/Oh Seungyeop, Kim Jinsung, Lee Dogyeom) and Seongju County Table Tennis (Lower Division/Jung Seonguk, Choi Seongjin, Kim Sunhee) took the championships.
For the large ball individual singles, the winners were Choi Okgyeong (Men's Division/Seongju Chambyeol Club), Park Kyungsuk (Women's Division/Chilgok County), Lee Jaei (Men's Beginner Division/Goryeong Association), and Jeong Kyungsuk (Women's Beginner Division/Senior Citizens Center). In the large ball team events, Chilgok County (Integrated Division/Lee Kyungsuk, Choi Wonil, Lee Eunsuk) and Goryeong Association (Integrated Beginner Division/Lee Jaei, Shin Haegwan, Kim Taesuk) celebrated their victories.
County Governor Lee Namcheol, in his welcoming remarks, said, "I warmly welcome table tennis enthusiasts from Seongju and Chilgok, our neighboring counties, to Goryeong. I am very grateful that this tournament plays such a significant role in promoting harmony, exchange, and communication among our regions. I hope this will also be an opportunity to explore the diverse cultural and tourism resources of Goryeong County."
Sports Association President Cho Yongheum stated in his opening speech, "It is an honor to host the Goryeong, Seongju, and Chilgok Amateur Table Tennis Tournament in Goryeong County. We will continue to provide opportunities for our community to unite through various amateur sports competitions."
Goryeong County is hosting the "2024 Goryeong County Sports Council President's UNESCO Goryeong Seongju Chilgok Recreational Table Tennis Tournament."
