Forum Sinsago to Hold Yeong-Honam Exchange Forum This Year

Over 50 Members, Including Honam Region Forum Communication and Exchange Participants, Attend

Forum Sinsago (Chairman Lee Sangchan, Director of Sehwa Hospital) held the '2024 Yeong-Honam Exchange Forum' on June 6 and 7 at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center and various locations throughout Busan.

The event was co-hosted by 'Forum Communication and Exchange of Honam' (Chairman Kim Okyeol) and 'Busan Broadcasting and Video Forum' (Chairman Kim Chiyong), and organized by Forum Sinsago. Under the theme 'Utilization of Modern Lifestyle Cultural Heritage and Urban Development Strategies - Focusing on Cases in Busan,' about 50 members from Yeong-Honam forums participated.


On this day, Son Minsu, CEO of Busan Travel Special Forces, gave a presentation on 'Sanbok Road and Villages Embracing the Scent of Busan,' while Mok Jisu, CEO of Site Branding, delivered a talk titled 'Our Neighborhood Landmark: The Story of Busan's Local Bathhouses.' The discussion was chaired by Yoon Hyunju, former editorial writer of Busan Ilbo, with panelists including Kim Dongpil, professor at Pusan National University, Kim Hyunsook, director of the Busan Local Food Research Institute, Jung Husik, former editorial director of Gwangju Ilbo, and Cho Jayong, professor at Jeonnam Provincial University.


Following the seminar, forum members visited Bosudong Book Alley, the Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum, and the UN Memorial Park, spending time exchanging information.


Lee Sangchan, chairman of this Yeong-Honam Exchange Forum, and Kim Okyeol, chairman, said, "Despite various challenging circumstances, we are very pleased to have held a meaningful seminar and provided a venue for unity between Yeong and Honam. Moving forward, we will continue to proactively identify and discuss issues facing civil society in Busan, Gwangju, and beyond, and propose solutions through forums."


In addition, Kim Chiyong, Secretary General of Forum Sinsago (Director of External Cooperation, Dong-Eui University; Professor of Game Engineering), stated, "Forum Sinsago has produced many leaders, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, several Busan mayors, members of the National Assembly, district heads, city council members, and heads of public institutions. Members from academia and civic groups have also been actively engaged in Busan society. Based on the capabilities of Forum Sinsago, we will strive to become a more advanced civic organization with awakened civic consciousness and cultured knowledge."


Forum Sinsago was founded on October 28, 1994, by intellectuals, scholars, and journalists in Busan. The organization is planning its 30th anniversary event this October. Currently, more than 250 members present diverse opinions and solutions to various social issues through forums and seminars. To date, over 130 forums related to Busan's development have been held, and the annual 'Yeong-Honam Exchange Forum' for East-West harmony has been hosted in both Busan and Gwangju.
