Officials from Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters, Gijang Police Station, and the 18th Coastal Mobile Battalion are taking a commemorative photo together at the promotional event for the drone flight prohibition zone around the nuclear power plant.
Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters, in cooperation with the Gijang Police Station and the 18th Coastal Mobile Battalion, promoted information on the drone no-fly zone around the nuclear power plant and how to report illegal drone operators when discovered.
The area surrounding the nuclear power plant (within an 18km radius) is designated as a no-fly zone under the Aviation Safety Act, and prior approval is required to fly drones in this area. Flying a drone without approval may result in a fine or legal penalties for illegal activity.
Choi Taehyun, an inspector from the Security Operations Division at Gijang Police Station, stated, "There have been unfortunate cases where people flew drones near the nuclear power plant without realizing it was a no-fly zone and were penalized. We hope that this drone no-fly zone campaign will raise awareness among many citizens."
Lee Kwanghun, head of Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters, said, "Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters has established and operates drone defense equipment 24 hours a day to detect and respond immediately to illegal drone flights. We will continue to work closely with related agencies to do our best to protect the nuclear power plant from external threats."
Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters reported that, in order to prevent illegal drone flights, it has actively promoted drone flight guidelines at popular tourist destinations and installed various signs and promotional materials, resulting in a reduction of illegal drone incidents by more than 40% compared to the same period last year.
