On the 9th, Samsung C&T Construction Division announced that it signed a business agreement with IoT specialist company Akara Life at the Raemian Gallery in Songpa-gu, Seoul, to promote the interconnection of smart home devices based on Matter.
Matter is a global standard technology that integrates and connects smart home devices from various brands into a single platform. Akara Life is an IoT specialist company that supplies various smart home products such as Matter-certified smart hubs, motorized curtains, and lighting, and provides a platform that connects these devices.
Until now, IoT services have evolved from controlling built-in devices through wall pads to intelligent home services offering functions such as all-off and voice recognition. However, there has been inconvenience due to the lack of guaranteed interoperability between devices and platforms because of different standards applied by each brand.
Based on this business agreement, Samsung C&T has laid the foundation to provide a service that allows direct control of home appliances and IoT devices throughout the house, such as in the living room and kitchen, regardless of brand, using a single 'Homenic' application.
Samsung C&T plans to first install Matter-based smart home devices in new complexes and build systems such as smart hubs for platform interconnection in existing residential complexes, enabling residents using Homenic to easily access integrated control services.
Additionally, by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Samsung C&T plans to introduce personalized services that recognize users' lifestyle patterns and automatically control various devices such as motorized curtains, lighting, and air conditioners according to the time.
Kim Myung-seok, Vice President and Head of the Housing Business Division at Samsung C&T, said, "It is significant as the first construction company to support various Matter-based smart home devices through an apartment app," adding, "We will continue to strive for new experiences that bring innovation to daily life along with improving residents' convenience."
Homenic is currently applied in a total of 16 complexes, including Raemian Onepentas, which is scheduled for sale at the end of this month.
