At the Policy Meeting, 56 Items Discussed Including Introductions and Key National Budget Projects and Issues for Next Year
Nam-pyo Hong, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, announced the direction for the second half of the city administration on the 1st, stating, "We will firmly establish the foundation for innovative growth and focus on producing tangible results so that citizens can truly feel substantial changes." In line with this, he gathered with local National Assembly members to secure national funding and resolve pending issues.
On the 9th, Changwon Special City held a policy meeting at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, inviting local National Assembly members. Attending the meeting were Han-hong Yoon, Hyung-doo Choi, Jong-yang Kim, and Jong-wook Lee, who engaged in in-depth discussions on strategies to secure next year's national budget and major policy issues.

Mayor Hong recalled that, when he took office two years ago, even as the government budget bill had already moved to the Ministry of Economy and Finance for review, the city, local National Assembly members, and national institutions within the district formed a "one team" and carried out all-out efforts until the budget was finally confirmed in the National Assembly, successfully securing essential national funds for Changwon's future. He urged for continued close cooperation in the 22nd National Assembly as well.
The main agenda items discussed that day included a total of 56 cases: 31 national funding projects and 25 pending issues, with a focus on projects requiring additional funding and urgent matters.
Mayor Hong emphasized the necessity of the Next-Generation Advanced Neutron Composite Beam Irradiation Facility, a large-scale joint research facility to be established in the new national industrial complex as part of Changwon's 50-year core project, Changwon National Industrial Complex 2.0. He stressed that this facility is essential for securing competitiveness in the defense and nuclear industries and requested active support for the swift progress of the project.
Furthermore, the city requested an increase of 12.2 billion KRW in next year's national budget for projects supporting manufacturing innovation for local companies, including: ▲Global Manufacturing Convergence Software Development and Demonstration ▲Establishment of a Digital Transformation (DX) Support Center for Machinery and Defense Manufacturing ▲Development and Demonstration of Manufacturing-Specialized Super-Scale Manufacturing AI Services. The city also proposed reflecting 1 billion KRW in planning funds for the Drone Manufacturing Localization Specialized Complex to foster future growth industries.

Effective authority for the special city and local pending issues were also discussed. The city requested attention to ensure that the Special City Support Act, currently being promoted by the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, includes practical authority in planning and finance, and asked for active support to minimize the impact of the recent closure of Lotte Department Store Masan Branch.
In addition, the city sought cooperation from the National Assembly on laying the foundation for future development and expanding the metropolitan transportation network, including: ▲Easing regulations in development-restricted areas ▲Reflecting new railway network projects such as Changwon-Daegu East and Masan-Hapcheon high-speed railways in the national plan ▲Installation of convenience facilities for residents in the eastern Jinhae area ▲Establishment of smart senior centers ▲Utilization of the existing Changwon Prison site ▲Establishment of a medical school.
Mayor Hong stated, "Even under the government's sound fiscal policy, we have achieved meaningful results in securing national funding that will serve as seeds for innovative growth, thanks to the close communication and cooperation between local National Assembly members and the city as one team." He added, "Let us continue to unite with one mind and one heart to drive change and development in Changwon."
