Among women's swimsuits available on the market, HUGG products were found to be relatively superior in terms of functionality and durability. In terms of cost-effectiveness, Lemango and Speedo products stood out.
The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 9th that it tested the quality and safety, including functionality and durability, of 10 women's swimsuit products from brands with high consumer preference. Among the brands, seven products were made of polyester-polyurethane materials: Rally 'NSLA412BLU', Renoma 'RN-LF2C802-DG', Lemango '2176', Barrel 'B4SWSWS002TRQ', Senti 'WST-21B901', Arena 'A4SL1PL67', and three products made of polyester: Renoma 'RN-LS2E201-PK', Speedo '8-00305814837', and HUGG 'WST1674'.
In the elongation test, which affects ease of putting on and taking off, two products, Lemango '2176' and Speedo '8-00305814837', stretched relatively more, while Senti 'WST-21B901' stretched relatively less, showing differences among products. In the elongation recovery rate test, which evaluates the degree to which the swimsuit fabric returns to its original length after being stretched repeatedly, three products?Rally 'NSLA412BLU', Lemango '2176', and HUGG 'WSA1773'?showed relatively excellent recovery.
In the seam strength test, which checks the sturdiness of the stitches on the swimsuit's side seams without thread breakage, the HUGG ‘WST1674’ product was relatively very excellent. In the bursting strength test, which evaluates whether the swimsuit fabric easily tears or rips under external force, Renoma 'RN-LS2E201-PK' and Speedo '8-00305814837' were found to be relatively very excellent. In the snagging test, which checks the degree of damage to the appearance caused by pulled threads during use, all tested products met the recommended quality standards for textile products.
All products complied with safety standards regarding harmful substances. Additionally, all tested products met the recommended standards for chlorine water fastness, sweat fastness, water fastness (which check the degree to which color bleeds or changes due to chlorine-treated water, sweat, and water), friction fastness (which checks the degree to which color bleeds due to rubbing), and washing fastness (which checks color change due to washing).
However, upon reviewing the labeling and online information of the 10 tested products, six products were found to be non-compliant with related standards and require improvement. Rally 'NSLA412BLU' and Lemango '2176' did not indicate the lining composition ratio, while HUGG 'WSA1773' and 'WST1674' did not display the address of the labeler. Additionally, Speedo '8-00305814837' indicated the blend ratio in English, and Senti 'WST-21B901' displayed the country of manufacture in English.
There were also differences in product thickness and weight. The thickness was 0.4 mm for Rally 'NSLA412BLU', and 0.7 mm for Renoma 'RN-LS2E201-PK' and HUGG 'WST1674'. The weight (based on size 85 or 28) was lightest for Speedo '8-00305814837' at 75g, and heaviest for Lemango '2176' at 103g. Prices ranged from the cheapest, Renoma 'RN-LF2C802-DG' at 55,000 KRW, to the most expensive, Renoma 'RN-LS2E201-PK' at 108,000 KRW, showing about a twofold difference between products.
