Must Apply by 4 PM on August 5
A discount refund for youth, offering 7,000 KRW off compared to the regular Climate Companion Card, has started. Since applications cannot be made after the deadline, eligible individuals should take note.
Seoul City announced on the 9th that it will accept applications for the Climate Companion Card youth discount post-refund for those aged 19 to 39 until 4 PM on the 5th of next month.
Youths who used the Climate Companion Card every day for 30 days between February 26 and June 30 of this year without suspending use, requesting a refund, or deleting the card can apply. A refund of 7,000 KRW per month will be given, and if used continuously for the entire 5-month pilot period, up to 35,000 KRW can be refunded.
The Climate Companion Card youth post-refund can be applied for through the T-money Card & Pay website for both mobile and physical cards. Since additional applications will not be accepted after the period ends, applicants must register their domestic bank account number under their name and apply by 4 PM on August 5.
After age and identity verification, the refund amount will be sequentially deposited into the applicant’s bank account under their name between the 26th and 30th of next month. Once the deposit is complete, individual notifications will be sent to applicants.
Since the main Climate Companion Card project started on the 1st of this month, youths aged 19 to 39 can immediately charge and use the youth card. It costs 55,000 KRW (58,000 KRW including Ddareungi), which is 7,000 KRW cheaper than the regular card priced at 62,000 KRW (65,000 KRW including Ddareungi). However, to prevent cases where someone other than the youth uses the card, identity verification must be done every six months, and physical card users must register on the T-money Card & Pay website before use.
Yoon Jong-jang, Director of Seoul City Urban Transportation Office, said, "Based on analysis showing that nearly half of Climate Companion Card purchasers during the pilot period were in their 20s and 30s, we introduced the youth discount and expanded the eligible age to 39 to reduce their transportation costs. We will continue to add various services and benefits to make the Climate Companion Card convenient and reasonable to use."
