Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, known as a "university city" (Mayor Lee Seong-heon), is promoting lifelong education projects in collaboration with nine universities in the district. The plan is to first operate lifelong education programs with four universities, including Yonsei University, and then expand the projects.
Seodaemun-gu's "University-Linked Lifelong Education Project" will be established and operated as a "lifelong learning continuous platform" to enable universities to support resident learning.
Initially, five lifelong education programs will be operated in collaboration with Digital Seoul Culture & Arts University, Myongji College, Seoul Women’s College of Nursing, and Yonsei University. These include: ▲ Boosting self-esteem! Citizen empowerment through senior model education ▲ Let’s go! Guide training for domestic travel leaders ▲ Spring Again (春), Self Total Styling ▲ Residents’ Life and Health University ▲ Conflict Transformation Leadership that Saves Me and Us.
The district has designated "realizing a lifelong education specialized city linked with universities" as a core project and plans to significantly expand the number of participating universities and programs starting in the second half of this year.
To this end, a meeting was recently held at the mayor’s office with lifelong education officials from each university in attendance. Last month, an advisory meeting on the "University-Linked Lifelong Education Project" was held with experts in the field of lifelong education.
Seodaemun-gu is a "university city" rich in educational resources, with more than 3,000 full-time faculty members, 638 departments, and over 300 research institutes across nine universities in the district. In addition to the four universities mentioned earlier, the district is home to Methodist Theological University, Kyonggi University, Myongji University, Myongji College, Ewha Womans University, and Chugye University for the Arts.
Mayor Lee Seong-heon stated, "With the plan to make the entire Seodaemun-gu a single campus without fences, we are promoting the university-linked lifelong education project so that many residents can acquire information suited to the changing times and engage in self-development within university spaces."
