Emergency Response at All Stations of Busan Metro Lines 1 to 4
Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) has installed automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in all stations on subway lines 1 to 4 to enable swift response in case of emergencies involving critically ill patients.
Although subway stations are not legally required to install AEDs, the corporation and local government have actively worked together to expand the installation, and have now completed AED installation in every station.
Additionally, extra devices will be installed in stations with complex layouts or larger scale. Seomyeon Station, which has a high volume of passengers, already has two AEDs installed.
The corporation is also continuously providing training for its staff on how to use AEDs and perform CPR to ensure smooth operation of the devices.
According to internal statistics, from 2023 to the present, a total of 17 passengers have lost consciousness while using the subway, and all were given emergency treatment with CPR and AEDs before being transported to hospitals by emergency medical services (119).
Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "Although we are not legally required to install AEDs, we have equipped every station to ensure the safety of our citizens using the subway," and added, "We will actively promote the AEDs so that anyone can use them when needed."
