Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 9th that it was selected as an excellent institution in the 2024 Disaster Management Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The Disaster Management Evaluation is a system established by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety since 2005 to comprehensively diagnose and evaluate the key capabilities at each stage of disaster management for 338 disaster management responsible institutions nationwide, including central government departments, local governments, and public institutions. It is conducted annually based on the previous year's disaster management performance.
This year's disaster management evaluation placed greater emphasis on practical activities such as the interest of the institution's head and the actual operation of the response system, strengthening the capability assessment compared to before.
Gangbuk-gu received excellent evaluations evenly across all areas of disaster management, including prevention, response, preparedness, and recovery. It was selected as ‘Excellent’ in the 2023 Disaster Response Safe Korea Training evaluation and as an excellent autonomous district in the Seoul Metropolitan Government Integrated Support Headquarters capability evaluation. Additionally, it established the disaster-specialized ‘Digital Gangbuk Integrated Platform’ to operate disaster-specific response systems, recognizing its excellence in disaster management.
As Gangbuk-gu was selected as an excellent institution in the 2024 Disaster Management Evaluation, it will receive not only a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety but also financial incentives including a special grant of 88 million KRW.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee said, “As various and complex disasters are increasing, we will devote all efforts to strengthening Gangbuk-gu’s disaster management capabilities and do our best to ensure that the lives of our residents remain safer in the future.”
