Ulsan Mayor Kim Dookyum Sends 2,565 Letters to Companies
The head of a metropolitan government wrote a letter to businesspeople regarding the heat.
On the 9th, Ulsan City announced that it had sent a letter in the name of Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom to 2,565 local businesses, encouraging participation in the "Heatwave Rest Program" to prepare for the heatwave.
The letter contains a request to ensure the health and safety of Ulsan workers, as the number and intensity of heatwave days have been increasing along with the average summer temperature, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses among workers during the summer.
The letter urges businesses to participate in the Heatwave Rest Program and comply with basic rules to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The Heatwave Rest Program is a system that grants workers rest or suspends work during the hottest hours of the day, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
When a heatwave advisory is issued, outdoor work hours should be shortened or adjusted, workers should rest for 10 minutes after 50 minutes of work every hour, and when a heatwave warning is issued, outdoor work should be stopped except in unavoidable cases, and workers should rest for 15 minutes after 45 minutes of work every hour.
This year, as of the 8th, there have been a total of 13 minor cases of heat-related illnesses reported in Ulsan.
Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, said, "I am concerned that the recent heatwave may harm the health and safety of workers," and added, "I ask companies to actively participate in the 'Heatwave Rest Program' and to follow the basic rules to prevent heat-related illnesses."
