Dobong-gu Establishes Automatic Blocking System for Flood Prevention at Gainji Underpass
Facility Improvement Project to Complete by End of June, Installation of Entry Blocking Equipment
Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) has established a 'Smart Flood Response Facility' at Gain Underpass (Changdong 181-34), which is at high risk of flooding.
The district announced that it completed the Gain Underpass facility improvement project at the end of June and is doing its best to prevent rain damage within the underpass.
Previously, the district secured a budget of 700 million KRW for the project through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's special adjustment grant, replaced outdated mechanical equipment, and dredged drainage channels and sumps. Afterwards, a water level monitoring system was established, and entry blocking facilities were installed.
The newly installed entry blocking facility is a system that monitors the water level inside the underpass in real-time through flood response monitoring by the water level monitoring system.
When the water level rises above a certain threshold and flooding is anticipated, a barrier screen automatically lowers along with a siren to block entry into the underpass, preventing human and property damage.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, "With the establishment of this automatic blocking system, effective flood response in the underpass is now possible even during unpredictable heavy rains," and added, "We will continue to promote prevention-centered safety measures so that residents can live with peace of mind anywhere."
