From July, up to 20,000 KRW per month per air conditioner in facilities for janitors and cleaners will be supported for two months to reduce electricity costs... First started nationwide in 2021, last year 23.48 million KRW was provided to 132 complexes to create a comfortable working environment
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will support the electricity costs of air conditioners installed in facilities for apartment complex workers and cleaners to prevent heat-related illnesses during the summer and to create a comfortable working environment.
Seongdong-gu was the first in the nation in 2021 to start the "Electricity Cost Support Project for Air Conditioners in Work or Rest Facilities of Apartment Complex Managers and Cleaners" to protect the rights of essential workers employed in apartment complexes. Since then, it has been providing cooling cost support annually to improve the working conditions of apartment complex managers and cleaners during heat waves.
The support targets apartment complexes with 20 or more households in the district that have air conditioners installed in the managers' or cleaners' work facilities (guard posts) or rest facilities. From July, a maximum of 20,000 KRW per air conditioner per month will be provided for two months. Last year, the district supported a total of 23.48 million KRW to 132 complexes with 20 or more households, excluding those without air conditioners installed.
The application period for cooling cost support is until July 19. The head of the residents' representative council or the manager can visit the Housing Policy Division of Seongdong-gu Office or submit the application documents by mail.
Additionally, as part of the 2024 apartment complex support projects, the district is promoting projects to improve the working environment and welfare of essential apartment complex workers, including ▲ floor improvement work for cleaners' rest rooms and ▲ repair work for security guards' work rooms and cleaners' rest rooms.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "I hope that through the cooling cost support, apartment complex managers and cleaners can work healthily in a comfortable environment during the summer." He added, "We will continue to respect the human rights of essential apartment complex workers and strive to improve their working environment to boost their motivation, while also working to establish a culture of coexistence in apartment complexes based on trust and consideration."
