'Expanding Lead in Approval Ratings' Trump Targets Democratic Strongholds Amid Biden's Weaknesses

Biden's Poor Debate Performance Followed by Democratic Party Targeting Swing States
USA Today Poll Shows Trump Leading by 3% Points... Gap Widens from Tie in May

Former President Donald Trump is strengthening his campaign in Democratic strongholds, taking advantage of President Joe Biden's crisis following a poor performance in the recent presidential debate. A new poll also showed that Trump has expanded his lead over Biden in approval ratings since the debate held at the end of last month.

On the 8th (local time), the American political news outlet The Hill reported that former President Trump is showing signs of expanding his base in the Democratic stronghold 'Blue States.'

It is reported that Trump plans to prioritize targeting New Hampshire, Virginia, and Minnesota, which are Democratic-leaning areas. In particular, the day after the debate on the 27th of last month, Trump held a large rally in Virginia to expand his support base.

Until now, both President Biden and former President Trump have focused on winning the votes of swing states?seven key battleground states that will decide the election?while leaving regions with clear party support as they are. However, with growing concerns about Biden's age and cognitive abilities following his poor debate performance, Trump is seizing this opportunity to eye Democratic strongholds.

Additionally, former President Trump will continue to build momentum as he is officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate at the party convention in Milwaukee from the 15th to the 18th. The vice-presidential candidate, Trump's running mate, will be announced on the 15th.

In this context, another poll revealed that Trump has widened his lead over Biden in approval ratings since the debate. According to a joint poll conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University after last month's debate, in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, Trump received 41% support, leading Biden's 38% by 3 percentage points. In a May poll, both candidates were tied at 37% support.

However, there are also poll results indicating that support in battleground states has not changed significantly after the debate. According to a poll conducted by Bloomberg News and Morning Consult after the debate and released on the 6th, Biden had 45% support, trailing former President Donald Trump, who had 47%, by 2 percentage points. In the May poll, Biden had 44% and Trump had 48%, a 4 percentage point gap, so the gap has actually narrowed since the debate.
