Installation of Pedestrian-Only Deck Road from Entrance of Mangu History and Culture Park Circular Path to 1.8km Junction
Various Efforts to Develop Mangu History and Culture Park into a Top National Attraction
Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has created a safe walking path along the park's circular trail to ensure the safety of visitors to Mangwoo History and Culture Park and held a completion ceremony on the 5th.
Until now, the circular trail at Mangwoo History and Culture Park did not separate vehicle lanes from pedestrian paths, causing pedestrians to step aside to the edge of the road whenever vehicles passed, which was inconvenient.
In response, the district installed a pedestrian-only deck road from the entrance of the circular trail to the 1.8 km section at the three-way intersection, separating vehicle lanes from pedestrian paths, and created safety railings and deck rest areas so visitors can use the park safely and conveniently.
This safe walking path construction marks the completion of phase 1, and there are plans to sequentially install safe walking paths throughout the entire circular trail.
Mangwoo History and Culture Park is a treasure trove of modern history, where more than 60 modern and contemporary figures, including independence activists and cultural artists, are laid to rest. It is also a famous spot in Jungnang-gu that attracts numerous tourists nationwide who come to pay tribute to these figures and view related exhibitions.
Since receiving the park management duties from Seoul City in July 2020, the district established a dedicated department for park management and has taken various steps to develop Mangwoo History and Culture Park into the nation's top attraction.
They began excavations of burial sites, discovering an additional 21 graves, and built a database of famous historical figures within the park. To enhance the park’s landscape, they installed landscape lighting and BI channel letters along the 400-meter section from the park entrance to Jungnang Mangwoo Space and neatly paved the roads.
Especially considering the geographical characteristic of being located on a hill, which lowers accessibility for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children, a free shuttle bus service has been operated since June last year between Yangwon Station and Mangwoo History and Culture Park to improve accessibility.
Various cultural events and exhibitions are held regularly. At Mangwoo History and Culture Park, events such as the ▲ August 15 Liberation Day Midsummer Night Concert ▲ Mangwoo Concert ▲ Jungnang Mangwoo Space special exhibitions, along with various educational programs linked to the exhibitions, are conducted.
District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “Through the completion of the safe walking path that harmonizes with nature, we have laid the foundation for visitors to use the park comfortably and safely, raising the park’s prestige.” He added, “We ask for your continued love and frequent visits to Mangwoo History and Culture Park, which is developing from a local landmark in Jungnang to a nationally renowned attraction.”
