President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 8th stated, "Recently, due to the effects of climate change, abnormal weather phenomena exceeding previous predictions are occurring frequently," and urged his aides to "thoroughly prepare for damages during this rainy season as well."
President Yoon gave these instructions after receiving a report on the heavy rain response situation in the early morning in Gyeongbuk and other areas during the senior secretaries' meeting held that morning, according to a written briefing by Lee Do-woon, the chief public relations officer.
Kim Soo-kyung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, conveyed that after the senior secretaries' meeting, during the regular meeting with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, President Yoon reiterated, "As we have entered the full rainy season, please make every effort to prepare for damages from heavy rains."
In particular, President Yoon emphasized, "Please manage current affairs meticulously to ensure there is no gap in state affairs during the overseas trip."
President Yoon will embark on a 2-night, 5-day visit to the United States starting that day to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit held in Washington, DC.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, heavy rain is expected nationwide during President Yoon's overseas trip.
On the 9th, the rainy season rain that began in the early morning in Chungcheong and Jeonbuk is expected to expand nationwide except for Gangwon Yeongdong and Jeju during commuting hours. Rain will fall until night in areas including Seoul and the metropolitan area, Chungcheong, and northern Gyeongbuk.
