The First Female Chairperson of Gwangju City Council... Councilor Shin Sujeong Elected as Chairperson for the Second Half Term

The first female chairperson since the opening of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council has been elected.

According to the Gwangju City Council on the 8th, at the plenary session of the extraordinary meeting held that day, Shin Su-jeong (The Democratic Party of Korea·Buk-gu 3), the sole candidate for the chairperson, was elected as the 9th term second half chairperson.

Out of a total of 23 votes, she received 16 votes in favor (4 invalid votes and 3 abstentions), becoming the first female chairperson since the launch of local councils in July 1991.

Seo Yong-gyu (The Democratic Party of Korea·Proportional Representation) was elected as the first vice-chairperson, and Chae Eun-ji (The Democratic Party of Korea·Proportional Representation) was elected as the second vice-chairperson.

The term of the 9th Gwangju Metropolitan Council second half chairperson will begin on the 11th. The chairpersons of the four standing committees?Administrative Autonomy Committee, Education and Culture Committee, Industry and Construction Committee, and Environment and Welfare Committee?will be elected on the 11th, and the chairperson of the Steering Committee will be elected on the 16th.

Newly appointed Chairperson Shin said, "I will do my best to make the council one that works with citizens, from the citizens' perspective, and in citizens' lives, by carrying out rational and sophisticated council activities through cooperation and communication."
