Secret Filming Incident at Jeju-do Bathhouse
Chinese Tourist Says "Filmed Out of Curiosity"
A man in his 60s, a Chinese tourist, was arrested by the police on suspicion of illegal filming at a bathhouse in Jeju.
On the 8th, the Jeju Western Police Station announced that they had booked a Chinese tourist, Mr. A (60), for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, specifically for filming using a camera or similar device.
Earlier, around 11 a.m. on the 7th, Mr. A was caught illegally filming women who were bathing at a bathhouse located in Jeju City. After receiving reports from the victims, the police arrived at the scene and confirmed illegal footage on Mr. A’s mobile phone, arresting him on the spot.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that "I filmed because the bathhouse was fascinating." The police said they would apply for a travel ban on Mr. A and conduct further investigations.
Meanwhile, Article 14 of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes stipulates that it is a criminal offense to film a person’s body, which may arouse sexual desire or shame, against the subject’s will using a camera or other similar mechanical device. Those found guilty of this offense may face up to seven years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won.
