"Too Many Cigarette Butts Piled on the Parking Pole"…Apartment Notice 'Complaint'

"Those Who Unconscionably Discard Cigarette Butts Should Reflect"

A resident appealed to those who illegally discarded cigarette butts near the parking posts in the apartment's underground parking lot to please throw them into the trash bin.

On the 8th, a photo of a notice related to cigarette butts posted in an apartment elevator was uploaded to the online community 'BobaeDream'.

The notice stated, "I sincerely appeal to the person who discarded all these cigarette butts," and added, "The underground parking lot is a shared space used by everyone. Reflect on your inconsiderate act of discarding cigarette butts. It would be simple to throw them into the trash bin." It also warned, "We can identify the person who discarded the cigarette butts through CCTV, but if this happens again, we will report it to the relevant authorities."

Looking at the photo attached to the notice, dozens of cigarette butts are discarded around the parking posts. It appears that someone parked in the underground parking lot and dumped a large amount of cigarette butts.

Netizens who saw this news responded with various comments such as, "We must report this as illegal dumping," "Fines for cigarette butt littering should be increased," "If you want to throw it away, throw it in the trash bin," "They should reveal the vehicle number through CCTV, impose fines, and shame them," and "Smokers should at least buy portable personal ashtrays."

"Too Many Cigarette Butts Piled on the Parking Pole"…Apartment Notice 'Complaint' Last month, a post titled "Called 119 because a fire broke out in the sewer due to a cigarette butt" was uploaded on an online community. [Image source=Online Community]

Earlier last month, a large fire almost broke out due to cigarette butts discarded in a drain. At that time, a netizen posted a photo of flames rising from the drain, saying, "Do not throw away cigarette butts. I stopped eating ramen, called 119, and am waiting." It was pointed out that carelessness in discarding cigarette butts could potentially cause a large fire, so caution is necessary.

Meanwhile, according to the Waste Management Act, if caught illegally dumping trash, a fine of up to 1,000,000 KRW can be imposed. Discarding carried trash such as cigarette butts or tissues results in a fine of 50,000 KRW.
