Landslide Warning Issued in Nonsan and Buyeo... Residents Evacuate
Due to heavy rainfall in the Chungnam region, there have been a series of large and small damages, including the collapse of retaining walls.
According to Chungnam Province on the 8th, from the 6th, Hongseong received 153.2mm of rain, Nonsan 137.5mm, Boryeong 137.0mm, Gyeryong 130.1mm, and Yesan 115.6mm.
As a result, one retaining wall collapsed in Cheonan, and roads were temporarily flooded in Geumsan. In Hongseong and Boryeong, 13.3 hectares of rice and watermelon farmland were flooded.
The fire department took safety measures in 26 cases, including removing fallen trees from roads.
As of 5 a.m. that day, heavy rain warnings were issued for Nonsan and Buyeo, and heavy rain advisories were issued for the other 13 cities and counties.
The Provincial Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters activated emergency level 1 and is conducting monitoring activities in areas where there is concern for human casualties.
So far, there have been no casualties, but around 2,000 residents of Nonsan and Buyeo, where landslide warnings have been issued, are being evacuated.
A provincial official said, "We will identify the damage status in vulnerable areas and carry out emergency restoration," and added, "We will continuously monitor the weather situation and take preemptive action."
