As dining out costs increase in the era of high inflation, supermarket pizzas priced in the 10,000 won range are gaining popularity.

Shinsegae Food announced on the 8th that sales at the pizza corner operated within E-Mart increased by 11% in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year. This marks a double-digit growth trend for the past three years.

A Shinsegae Food official analyzed, "This sales increase is due to the growing number of budget-conscious consumers feeling the burden of dining out expenses amid prolonged high inflation, and supermarket pizzas, which offer excellent taste, abundant ingredients, and reasonable prices, are receiving positive responses."

The price of an 18-inch pizza sold by Shinsegae Food within E-Mart is in the mid-to-high 10,000 won range, which is about 30-40% cheaper compared to the delivery pizza prices of global pizza brands (averaging 20,000 to 25,000 won). Additionally, considering the rapidly increasing demand from 1-2 person households, selling slice pizzas at an affordable price of 3,900 won was also cited as a reason for the sales increase.

Shinsegae Food expects the number of customers seeking supermarket pizzas to steadily increase as high inflation continues, and plans to attract customers by launching new menu items with improved taste and quality.

First, two new menu items will be introduced at the pizza corner within E-Mart, featuring increased topping varieties on the 18-inch pizzas and cheese added to the edges for a richer flavor experience.

The ‘Bulgogi Ricotta Cheese Pizza’ is topped with bulgogi, ricotta cheese, and green onions, characterized by a sweet yet savory taste. The ‘Combination Deluxe Pizza’ is loaded with various meat toppings such as pepperoni, bulgogi, and sausage, along with plenty of vegetables, totaling eight different ingredients.

The prices for the Bulgogi Ricotta Cheese Pizza and Combination Deluxe Pizza are 17,980 won and 15,980 won, respectively.

A Shinsegae Food official said, "Supermarket pizzas that satisfy both taste and price are gaining popularity amid prolonged high inflation. We will continue to develop and introduce cost-effective menu items that meet the expectations of budget-conscious consumers."
