Incheon City and related organizations are joining forces to establish a social safety net for suicide prevention.

On the 8th, the city announced that it has signed a "Life Respect Safe Village Creation Business Agreement" with seven organizations, including the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, Incheon Oriental Medical Association, Incheon Pharmaceutical Association, Incheon Buddhist Federation, Incheon Christian Federation, and Incheon Social Welfare Center Association, and will strengthen the cooperative system.

The Life Respect Safe Village Creation Project is an integrated suicide prevention initiative at the eup, myeon, and dong levels that utilizes community resources and networks in the fields of healthcare, education, welfare, distribution and sales, community, and public services to build a social safety net for suicide prevention and foster a culture of life respect.

Through this agreement, participating organizations have agreed to actively cooperate in promoting the project, including recruiting resources by sector for the creation of Life Respect Safe Villages.

This year, the city plans to pilot operate 10 Life Respect Safe Villages in three districts?Jung-gu, Namdong-gu, and Seo-gu?and by 2027, establish a total of 125 Safe Villages throughout Incheon.

According to the 2021 psychological autopsy interview report, 94% of suicide victims showed warning signs before death, but only 22.7% of those around them recognized these signs, and 46.2% worried but were unable to take any specific action.

An official from Incheon City stated, "Since the interest and response of family, friends, and others around are crucial for suicide prevention, it is necessary for all members of the community to unite in firmly recognizing the importance of respecting life and to establish a suicide prevention safety net tailored to local characteristics. We will make greater efforts to create a city safe from suicide by actively utilizing community resources and networks."
