"Democratic Party's 'Impeachment Syndrome'... Reckless Disruption of State Affairs"
The People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea on the 7th for pushing to impeach four current prosecutors involved in the investigation of former leader Lee Jae-myung's case, calling it "a tantrum to protect former leader Lee."
In a statement, floor spokesperson Jo Ji-yeon said, "It is a well-known fact that the Democratic Party's Judiciary Committee, controlled by the lawyers of the Daejang-dong case, has already turned into the 'Lee Jae-myung law firm.'" Jo added, "If he is innocent, they should not turn the National Assembly Judiciary Committee into the 'Lee Jae-myung courtroom,' but rather urge a swift investigation and clearly clarify the facts in court." She pointedly asked, "Does the judicial risk of former leader Lee justify recklessly shaking up state affairs?"
Chief spokesperson Choi Su-jin also stated in a commentary, "The impeachment of the four prosecutors is a comedy to anyone who sees it," and pointed out, "Since these prosecutors investigated former leader Lee and the Democratic Party, there is no doubt about their intention." Choi claimed, "In response to criticism that the grounds for impeachment are weak, they have even gone so far as to say they will 'accept reports from the entire nation,' which is a farce," adding, "This is a public opinion battle to stop former leader Lee's trial and a clear intention to directly investigate the prosecutors who are investigating themselves."
The People Power Party also condemned the Democratic Party for pushing a hearing on the impeachment petition against President Yoon Seok-youl and hinting at impeachment against broadcasting and communications commission nominee Lee Jin-sook, calling it an 'impeachment disease.' Floor spokesperson Jo said, "The attempt to seize the judiciary and broadcasting through baseless impeachment campaigns and indiscriminate disruption of state affairs has gone too far." Chief spokesperson Choi said, "The Democratic Party's impeachment disease is at a critical level," adding, "They are intoxicated with 'impeachment play,' intending to put both the judiciary and the executive branch under the legislature’s feet, and if anything or anyone becomes an obstacle to Lee Jae-myung's presidential path, they will directly remove them."
