Chairman Jeong Eui-seon Proposed Improvement Project Last Year
Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 7th that it has completed the improvement project of the Korean Park in Ankara, Turkey. The project, which was proposed by Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun as one of the symbols of friendship between Korea and Turkey, took place over the past 10 months.
The park was established in 1973, the 50th anniversary of the founding of Turkey, to honor the spirit of sacrifice of Turkish soldiers who gave their lives to protect peace during the Korean War. It covers an area of about 10,000 square meters and features a Korean War Memorial Tower, with the names of 724 fallen soldiers engraved on the surrounding walls.

After 50 years since its opening, the park's facilities had aged or been damaged, requiring repairs. Chairman Chung Eui-sun, who visited the park last year, proposed the improvement project, emphasizing the importance of properly expressing gratitude as the site hosts commemorative and memorial events for veterans, and ensuring that families and visitors can rest comfortably when visiting the park.
In coordination with the local Korean Embassy, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Ankara Cultural Heritage Preservation Committee, the complex approval procedures were smoothly carried out. The memorial tower was cleaned and repainted, focusing on the polluted areas. The park's fence and benches were also refurbished. The flooring was replaced with durable travertine marble.
The management office was renovated into a Korean-style hanok building, and a Korean-style octagonal pavilion was erected in the rest area. Mustafa Kaymak, director of the Ankara Cultural Heritage Preservation Committee, said, "The entire park was beautifully completed, and I believe visitors to the Korean Park will be very pleased."
On the 25th of last month, a completion ceremony was held with the attendance of key local figures on the occasion of the 74th anniversary memorial event of the Korean War. Turkish government officials and citizens present at the site expressed satisfaction with the refurbished park facilities. A Hyundai Motor official said, "We hope that local citizens visiting the park can rest more comfortably and that it will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the noble sacrifice of Turkish soldiers who participated in the Korean War."
