A lawyer in New York subdued a thief who tried to steal his cellphone with his bare hands while having lunch. The lawyer is reported to be a jiu-jitsu black belt holder.
On the 5th (local time), videos released by the British Daily Mail and social media (SNS) showed that on the 2nd, a lawyer named Kyle was having lunch at a taco shop on Junction Boulevard in Queens, New York. At that moment, a man suddenly approached Kyle, who was sitting near the entrance of the shop, and demanded money. When Kyle refused, the man tried to take his cellphone. At that moment, Kyle stood up, fought with the man, grabbed his arm, and pinned him to the ground, subduing him with his bare hands.
Kyle said, "When the man tried to snatch my cellphone, I thought I might get stabbed with a weapon, but still, I felt I had to take him down." He added, "After subduing him, I judged that he was only trying to take my cellphone and was not trying to harm me, so I let him go."
Kyle started practicing jiu-jitsu in 2018 and is currently known to hold a purple belt. Jiu-jitsu promotions proceed in the order of white, blue, purple, brown, and black belts.
