On the 4th (local time), on Independence Day, a national holiday in the United States, shootings and violent incidents occurred across the country, resulting in at least 26 deaths and over 80 injuries.

According to reports from local media including the AP News, 11 people were killed and 55 injured in a series of shootings in Chicago alone. At around 6:15 a.m., a shooting occurred at a residence in the Greater Grand Crossing area of Chicago's South Side, killing three people including an 8-year-old child, and leaving two other children in critical condition.

A neighbor said, "I thought it was fireworks, but it wasn’t," adding, "Two people wearing masks so thick that their faces were not visible jumped from the balcony." The shooter fled the scene, and the circumstances of the incident remain unknown. Police believe the shooting started due to a personal dispute and are tracking the suspect based on witness accounts.

Just after midnight at 12:14 a.m., a shooting in Chicago’s Little Italy area injured eight people, including a woman in her 70s. Local police reported that the injuries resulted from a shootout between two individuals, and the shooter fled the scene.

About an hour and a half later, six people were injured in a shooting in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said, "This series of violent incidents has left our city in mourning," and expressed "deep shock and sincere condolences to the families and communities affected."

At around 11 p.m., in Huntington Beach, California, two people were killed and three injured after being stabbed by a suspect wielding a knife. The suspect was arrested at the scene, but the motive remains unknown.

In Niles, Ohio, a person in their 20s was shot in the head by a teenager and died, and in Cleveland, a 10-year-old girl was shot and killed. In Philadelphia, a 19-year-old man was killed and six others injured in a shooting, while Boston saw one death in three separate shooting incidents. In Connecticut, a woman was found shot to death inside a car, and in St. Louis, two people died and five were injured in two shooting incidents.

Independence Day in the U.S. is known as the day with the highest number of shootings annually. Last year, at least 12 people died and 60 were injured in shootings occurring around this day. In 2022, seven people were killed in a mass shooting during a parade near Chicago.

On the afternoon of the same day, in Colliers Hook Park in the Lower East Side area of Manhattan, New York, a vehicle driven by a man in his 40s suddenly rushed into the park, hitting pedestrians. Three people died, including a man in his 50s and a mother and child in their 30s, and seven others were injured.

The vehicle ran a stop signal, crossed the curb, and crashed into the park. Police suspect drunk driving and have detained the driver, investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
